Among the innumerable wonders found in Peru, there is a place, very close to Lima, where you will find an oasis in the middle of the desert, we are referring to the Huacachina oasis located in the department of Ica, 4 hours from Lima.

History of the Huacachina Oasis.

Peru is distinguished into 3 marked regions, the coast (part of Peru that borders the Pacific Ocean), the Sierra or Andes (the mountain range, the highest elevation in Peru), and the Selva, jungle region.

Huacachina is located on the coast of Peru, which is a desert area since long before the entire area was covered by the sea.
Between the desert and the dunes of Ica, an outcrop of groundwater was born, forming a small pond or oasis, generating flora and fish appeared, attracting birds and with it, a very interesting ecosystem was generated amid everything.

The area began to be visited approximately 70 years ago by the citizens of Ica and Lima, later becoming an obligatory point of visit for all tourists. Hotels and restaurants were created, and being between dunes, sports such as sandboarding.

How to get to the Huacachina Oasis

To get to the Huacachina Oasis, departing from Lima, the capital of Peru, we take the highway to the south, in approximately 4 hours we must reach Ica, after that, we will be only 10 minutes away by taxi to Huacachina.

We recommend always going by bus or private car as it is the fastest and cheapest route.

It can also be reached on tours of one day or more, if you want to enjoy the area, you can spend more than one day with different activities.

Activities in the Huacachina Oasis

The Huacachina oasis is located between the extensive dunes of Ica, it is a small destination, you can see everything on foot, however, it has many activities to do.

Sandboarding: the perfect sport for the dunes, you develop boards down the dunes, sliding with them, which can be done without knowing as the area is quite safe, however, it can also be practiced professionally.

Buggies: Ride in buggies or sand carts, walk through the dunes, and enjoy the adrenaline, it's like a roller coaster, but without having a single destination.

Small boat ride: the Huacachina Oasis is an excellent place to admire, however, you can also access the oasis in small boats to enjoy the experience even more.
