The best places in the Barranco neighborhood

Originally inhabited by fishermen, Barranco, along with Callao, was one of the main ports supplying fish to the growing city of Lima. However, it was in the late 1890s, after the war with Chile, that it became a key area in the city's economic recovery. With improved infrastructure, it caught the attention of the high society seeking to vacation by the sea, turning into an ideal weekend retreat.
Its popularity continued to grow, and thanks to its incredible atmosphere and privileged ocean views, it became a meeting point for artists. Today, you can enjoy amazing street art, bars, boutiques, galleries, museums, and restaurants. One of its main attractions is the iconic “Bridge of Sighs,” built in 1876 and remodeled in 1881 due to damage suffered during the war. This historic bridge gained popularity among couples and is famous for the urban legend that says those who cross it without breathing for the first time will be granted a wish. Another famous spot in the district is the “Baths Descent” an area where fishermen used to descend to the Barranco beaches, now filled with incredible street art and colorful shops.
