Machu Picchu is reopened. We are happy to tell you that access to Machu Picchu is now open, this after the site was closed on January 4th, 2023, due to the political crisis in Peru and the demonstrations that took place at the beginning of the month in Cusco.
The Inca citadel has been open again since February 13th, 2023.However, tourists are still recommended to book their visit to Machu Picchu far in advance.
Schedules have been resumed and buses are running normally again for all destinations: Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes, Cusco and Machu Picchu Pueblo (the last station before entering the Archaeological Park).
It is also very important to note that Machu Picchu is one of the main tourist attractions in Peru as well as one of its most popular destinations for backpackers and travelers. As such, it's always advisable to plan your trip well in advance so that you can be sure of having a ticket reserved on your desired date!
Also, we are happy to announce that all of the Inca Trail will be reopened in March..
There is no need to worry about the high and rainy seasons, so now is a great time to visit Machu Picchu!
The other alternative is to hike the alternative route: The Salkantay Trek. This route takes you through some of Peru's most beautiful landscapes and offers a lot of variety. The trek also ends at Machu Picchu where you will have plenty of time to explore the ruins before taking a bus back to Cusco.
