Aerodrome and Nazca Lines

One of the most prominent figures in the study of the Nazca Lines was German mathematician and archaeologist Maria Reiche, who dedicated much of her life to researching and preserving these geoglyphs. Reiche suggested that the lines might have had an astronomical purpose and advocated for their value as one of humanity's most valuable heritages. The Nazca Lines were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, in recognition of their historical and cultural significance.
Thanks to the extremely dry and stable climate of the Nazca Desert, these figures have been preserved over the centuries. This has allowed us to deeply explore the Nazca culture, a civilization famous for its art, engineering, and mystical rituals. The best way to appreciate the Nazca Lines is from the air. You can choose from sightseeing flights departing from the María Reiche aerodrome in Nazca or from Pisco Airport, which is closer to Lima. If you prefer a ground option, some figures can be viewed from the 'Nazca Lines Observation Tower,' located at kilometer 419 of the Pan-American Highway South, although the view is more limited.
Extend your experience and fly for over an hour to also see the amazing Palpa Lines, created by predecessor cultures.

- The Nazca Lines were created over 1,500 years ago by the Nazca culture and have been protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. Their figures cover nearly 500 km² of desert, with some straight lines extending up to 20 kilometers, while the largest figures, like the pelican, measure up to 300 meters in length.
The Palpa Lines, located north of Nazca, were discovered in 1927 and are associated with the Paracas culture, a civilization that inhabited the region between 800 BC and 100 AD. These geoglyphs include anthropomorphic figures, believed to represent deities or mythical figures, as well as animals. The figures are situated on hills and slopes, providing better visibility from various angles.
