- There are only four places in the world where natural pink salt is extracted, and one of them is in the Salt Mines of Maras (the others are in the Himalayas, Poland, and Bolivia). This precious salt derives its characteristic color from the mineral elements found in spring water, such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, and silicon. It is also an important culinary ingredient in Peruvian cuisine, used to enhance the flavor of various dishes, from meats and fish to salads and soups.
- In the Moray Terraces, various crops like potatoes and corn were domesticated, potentially giving rise to the immense variety of potatoes that Peru has today.
